Hello and welcome to a new school year!  I hope you had a restful and relaxing summer.  I have thoroughly enjoyed these past few days with your little ones and getting to know each of them.  I know that we are going to have a fun and exciting Kindergarten year!

Every child has different expectations and anticipations surrounding school. Some are filled with joy and excitement as they return from summer holidays while others may be anxious as they make the transition to a new school and new friends.  Please bring to my attention any concerns you may have regarding your child.

Below is information regarding activities that will run throughout the year.

Agendas - Each morning, we check the agendas for communication from home.  Please use the agendas to inform usof any upcoming absences, questions or concerns.  Through the agenda, we will notify you of any important dates or events and will attempt to provide insight into your child’s school day. Reflecting on the ideas, facts or concepts learned is an important part of the learning process.  Please sign the appropriate date each night as it helps us to know that the information is being passed on.  We want to establish this habit as agendas are not only a means of communication but also useful tools for recording homework and helping to keep your child organized.

Home Reading- The children will be asked to read for 10-20 minutes daily. This exposure is critical in establishing a routine and expanding their sight vocabulary.

The children will be bringing home books at their individual reading level by October.

Book Orders – Throughout the year I will be sending home Scholastic book orders.  If you wish to order, please send a cheque payable to Scholastic. No cash please.

Library – The Kindergarten students will be signing out books to take home each Thursday. Please have them return their book the following Thursday.

Volunteers – If you would like to assist in our Kindergarten classroom, I will be making a monthly schedule and there will be signup times available.  There are many jobs need to be completed on a weekly basis, such as helping organize Scholastic book orders and assist with cutting or laminating, making booklets and helping with special events.   If you are interested in helping us out, please let me know personally or through the agenda.  Thank you ever so much in advance!

Snacks – Please send a nutritious snack and lunch with your child every day.  Please ensure that all food that is sent to school is completely PEANUT AND NUT-FREE.

Kleenex and a Sock- It would be appreciated if you could send a box of Kleenex, and an old, clean sock to school.  The sock will be used for cleaning individual whiteboards, which the students will be working on daily.

Sneakers- Schools are required to provide students with daily physical activity.  Please ensure that your child has a pair of clean sneakers at school at all times.

I hope this information has answered some of your questions.  Please don’t hesitate to call me throughout the year if you have any concerns or questions.
