Chestermere Country Fair

In honour of Lana Sproul, we have been working with the Chestermere Country Fair to create a Red Ribbon Competition Category in her memory. Lana was known for her kindness and therefore, this competition is intended to encourage people to spread kindness throughout the community.

The entries will be due on September 7th, but the intent is that students work to spread kindness throughout the spring and/or summer.  Please see the attachment  for more information about this category and how to enter. The link below contains information about the Country Fair and other Red Ribbon Competitions that can be entered..

RVS seeks public feedback on ward boundaries
The Board of Trustees invites you to give feedback regarding Rocky View Schools’ ward boundaries. A ward is a local area within the school division that a trustee represents.  As some of our communities have changed significantly since the last board boundary change in 2017, the board is engaging in a review to ensure that effective and equitable representation is maintained. We invite you to take part in our review process by attending a public meeting and/or providing feedback. To learn more about the options being presented for feedback, public meeting times/locations, and provide feedback visit RVSEngage.

 Are You Relocating?

Are you relocating and your child(ren) will no longer be attending Grades 1-8 at Indus School for 2024/2025? We would greatly appreciate you letting us know to help us with our enrollment estimations for the 2024/2025 school year. You can call the office (403-936-5855) or email Mrs. Hansen, if your child(ren) will not be attending our school in Grades 1-8 next year.

REMINDERS:

Peanuts and Tree nuts:  Please check that your child isn’t bringing anything that contains, or may contain, peanuts or tree nuts to school.  Because these foods are potentially lethal to some of our students, they are not permitted at Indus School.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-up Reminder

Before and after school, ALL non-bus students must be dropped-off and picked-up at the east side of the school, using the Indus RECREATION Centre entrance.

Please do not use the school's front parking lot to drop-off and/or pick-up your child(ren) before 8:40am and/or after 3:20pm.

* We must keep the school's small parking lot clear of traffic before and afterschool, to ensure the safety of our bus students and supervisors as busses are unloaded and loaded!

Late arrivals after 8:40am and early pickups before 3:20pm may use the school's front parking lot, as students must sign-in/sign-out through the office when arriving late or leaving early.

School doors for students are open at 8:35am every morning.

Please do not drop off your children too early at the school, as we cannot provide supervision for students before the 8:35am bell.

At the end of the school day, students are expected to go home within 10 minutes after school ends unless they are directly supervised by their family or childcare provider. After 3:40 (1:10 on Fridays), students wishing to return to the school playground may do so, but there is no supervision provided by the school.

Parent Drivers: Thank you to all of you who are following the rules and procedure, but as a reminder:

  1. Please be sure to adhere to the Recreation Centre’s 15 km speed limit (it feels slightly slower than walking)
  2. Please drive around the north end of the arena, drop off your children, and continue out on the south side of the building.  This will increase the safety for our students and reduce congestion in the parking lot.

  Listening Tails

Some of our students will be taking part in a program called Listening Tails, where they read to a dog.  We will take all measures necessary to ensure that the dog is kept in one space when he is here and will ensure that proper cleaning takes place when he leaves.

Looking to report a student’s absence?  You can use our new Safe Arrival Program! The Safe Arrival Program can be accessed using your mobile phone app, website link, or toll-free number (1-833-244-5565)

*When you wish to pick up your child early from (or child will arrive late to) school, as a courtesy, please contact the office. The Safe Arrival App may not upload this information for Mrs. Hansen in a timely fashion.

*If you are not comfortable using the new Safe Arrival system, you can still leave a message for a student absence by emailing Mrs. Hansen(anhansen@rockyview.ab.ca)  please be detailed about the reason for your child’s absence.

Safe Arrival Information for Parents

As a school, we are working to support our students in developing positive behaviours.  As a staff, we have created this matrix which focuses on safety, responsibility and respect.  Children who are following these expectations may get a ticket which provides them with the opportunity to have their name in a draw for prizes each week.

This is a friendly reminder to all bus students - please sign off the bus if you will not be riding the school bus to your home after school. For parents/guardians of students in Grades K-6, we thank you in advance for notifying the school if your child will be off the school bus in the afternoon.

Please remind your child(ren) to check the Lost & Found on a regular basis. Our Lost & Found is located by our gymnasium. Clothing left behind is donated to charity at the end of every month.

Have a great weekend!
